Dairy Infrastructure Development Initiatives Launched in Ladakh

During a visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a series of dairy infrastructure projects on May 1, 2026. The initiatives aim to boost the local dairy industry by enhancing milk processing capacities and improving market linkage for regional farmers.

Key projects include the foundation stone laying of a 10 TLPD (Thousand Liters Per Day) dairy plant in Kargil, and the inauguration of new processing units in Leh for curd and paneer production. Additionally, a Bulk Milk Cooler system was launched to strengthen milk storage and transportation.

To modernize cooperative operations, an Android-based Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) application was introduced. This digital tool is designed to streamline procurement processes and ensure transparency in payments to farmers, reflecting a focus on digital empowerment in the dairy sector.

A mobile milk testing laboratory was also flagged off to ensure quality assurance and support dairy farmers directly at the grassroots level. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between key stakeholders to improve marketing strategies for local dairy products under prominent brands, expanding market access for producers.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, were present at the inauguration event, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing the dairy industry in the region.
