Dairy Farmers of America Acquires W&W Dairy to Expand Hispanic Cheese Operations
Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a well-established US dairy cooperative, has taken a strategic step by acquiring W&W Dairy, a manufacturer specialising in Hispanic cheese products. This acquisition includes the business of W&W Dairy, its licensed brands, and its manufacturing facility located in Monroe, Wisconsin. The site is known for producing authentic Hispanic cheeses like queso fresco, cotija, queso blanco, and quesadilla. While DFA has not disclosed the financial terms of this transaction, the cooperative aims to integrate the Monroe facility to complement its existing operations in Houston, Texas, under the La Vaquita brand. It anticipates that such a move will unlock operational synergies and broaden its market reach by enhancing production capacity. Ken Orf, President of the cheese, taste, and flavours division at DFA, highlighted that the Hispanic cheese market is expanding three times faster than the overall cheese category. Therefore, this acquisition positions DFA well for future growth in this thriving segment.

Orf stated, "This strategic acquisition adds a second plant in our network focused solely on producing Hispanic cheese, moving DFA into a stronger position for growth with this important dairy category." Earlier in the year, DFA enhanced its portfolio by acquiring Winona Foods' Lineville facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin, known for its processed cheese products, sauces, and non-dairy offerings. The cooperative remains committed to delivering value to its farmer-owners through these strategic investments. The operations at the Monroe facility will proceed without interruption. The current management team will continue to oversee daily activities, and employment has been offered to all 97 employees. Both the Monroe and Green Bay facilities will be integrated into DFA's cheese, taste, and flavours division. In recent months, the US has seen increased activity within the sector of Mexican and Hispanic cuisines, marked by high-profile acquisitions such as PepsiCo's $1.2 billion deal to take over Siete Foods. This trend underscores the rising prominence and demand for Hispanic food products in the American market.
