Cyprus Maintains Stable Milk Prices Amid EU-Wide Increases in 2025

According to Eurostat, the average price of agricultural goods in the European Union rose by 3% in 2025 compared to 2024, marking a recovery from a previous decline. Despite this overall increase, Cyprus stood out for recording one of the slowest increases in milk prices, offering relative stability for local consumers and producers.

Milk prices in most EU member states increased, with Denmark experiencing a 21% rise and Estonia seeing a 20% increase. In contrast, milk prices in Cyprus grew at one of the slowest rates in the EU, placing it as the third lowest for milk price growth between 2024 and 2025.

The Eurostat report highlights that while the average EU-wide milk price index reached 141.83 units in 2024, Cyprus' index was significantly lower. Using 2020 as a base year set at 100 units, Cyprus' milk price index rose to 117.41 units in 2024, marking a total increase of approximately 17.4% since 2020. This increase was modest compared to the steeper rise at the EU level.

Other agricultural commodities also saw varied price movements in 2025, with cattle prices rising by 26% and eggs by 23%, driven by tighter supply and higher production costs. Conversely, olive oil prices fell by 37%, and potatoes dropped by 22%, indicating uneven trends across different segments.

Input costs for farmers showed moderate increases, with fertilizers and soil improvers rising by 5%, while energy lubricant prices fell by 2%. Such changes in input costs partly mitigated the impact of rising agricultural product prices.

Overall, Eurostat's data underscores the ongoing volatility in European food markets, with Cyprus emerging as a relative outlier in terms of milk price stability amid broader EU trends of rising prices.
