Cundinamarca is now the second-largest milk producer in Colombia, with over 5.8 million liters produced daily.

Cundinamarca, a department in Colombia, has positioned itself as the country's second-largest milk producer by achieving a daily production of approximately 5.8 million liters. This significant milestone underscores the department’s critical role in the national dairy sector.
Cundinamarca boasts 474,176 female bovines in milking, distributed across various municipalities, highlighting its substantial production capacity. The leading contributors within the department are regions such as Ubaté with 1,199,827 liters daily, Sabana Centro with 1,055,068 liters, and Sabana Occidente producing 705,892 liters daily. These three regions collectively represent more than 50% of the department's total production.
Beyond sheer quantity, Cundinamarca's dairy sector is experiencing qualitative improvements through public policies focused on infrastructure enhancement, genetic development, pasture improvement, and evolving cattle practices. The Department of Agrocampesinado supports these initiatives with programs enhancing pasturelands and providing technical assistance in eight municipalities, benefiting 313 production units with resources and training.
Moreover, inter-administrative agreements worth over $393 million strengthen bovine genetics, pasture innovation, and productive development in municipalities like Medina, Villagómez, and Yacopí. These measures already support hundreds of rural production units.
The rest of 2025 anticipates continued support for infrastructure, genetic improvements, and technical partnerships to sustain Cundinamarca's leadership in the dairy sector.
