Closure of North Yorkshire Dairy Factory Threatens Over 100 Jobs

More than 100 jobs are under threat after Arla Foods UK announced the impending closure of its dairy facility in Settle, North Yorkshire, today. The company plans to move its production to its site in Lockerbie, Scotland, signaling a significant shift in its operational structure.
Up to 120 jobs stand to be lost as services at the Settle site are gradually reduced, leading up to its full closure in 2027. This announcement has raised significant concerns among employees and the local community which heavily rely on the factory as a key source of employment.
Deanne Ferguson, a GMB Organiser, expressed her concerns:
“If Arla's proposal to close goes ahead, it will be a devastating blow for the dedicated workers at Settle and for the local community which relies on this key employer. It will have a significant economic and social impact.”
Ferguson stated that the GMB union will stand alongside its members to provide full support during this difficult period. She emphasized the need for urgent discussions with Arla to explore all possible options to protect jobs.
“We call Arla and all stakeholders to engage in full and transparent discussions about the future of the workforce and to consider all available alternatives to compulsory redundancies,” she added.
