Chilean Milk Production Increases in First Quarter

The Chilean dairy sector witnessed considerable growth in the first quarter of 2025, as milk production increased by 6.5% compared to the previous year. This growth resulted in a total output of 574.3 million liters for the quarter, marking an interannual rise of 35.2 million liters, as reported by the Federación Nacional de Productores de Leche (Fedeleche) based on data from the Oficina de Estudios y Políticas Agrarias (Odepa).
The regions of Los Lagos and Los Ríos were pivotal, accounting for 83.6% of national production. Los Lagos saw a 10.7% surge, reaching 275.7 million liters, while Los Ríos increased by 4.2%, totaling 204.4 million liters. Conversely, La Araucanía experienced a minor dip.
Regional performances varied, with Biobío showing a notable 13.2% rise, while Ñuble experienced a sharp decline. The central regions including Valparaíso, Metropolitana, and O’Higgins exhibited mixed results, balancing growth and reductions.
In March alone, a remarkable production jump of 12.8% was recorded, with Los Lagos again leading with a 20.5% increase. However, not all regions fared equally, as Ðuble continued its downward trend.
This upturn in production emphasizes strategic regional efforts to bolster the sustainability and competitive edge of Chile’s dairy industry, amid varying outcomes across different areas. Source: Comunicaciones Fedeleche FG
