Chilean Dairy Exports Surge by 22.1% by August
This marks the highest volume recorded in five years. The main driver of this export growth was whole milk powder (WMP), which saw sales soar by 135.3%, amounting to 13,549 tons. This positions it as the most dynamic category in Chile's dairy portfolio. Other products that experienced significant expansion include condensed milk (34.1%), with 24,686 tons sold, and Gouda cheese (36.4%), boosted by demand from markets in Mexico and Asia.

Key destinations for whole milk powder included Brazil (40.7%), Colombia (21.4%), Mexico (12.4%), and Cuba (10.0%). Infant formula and dairy-based preparations also saw growth, with a 41.5% increase, leading to exports of 3,617 tons. However, despite the increase in exports, Chile continues to have a negative dairy trade balance in equivalent liters, as imports exceed exports.

This trend presents both encouraging opportunities and significant challenges for producers, industries, and authorities alike. Consolidating external markets, ensuring quality and traceability, diversifying products, and balancing the internal supply against export growth remain critical targets.
