CattleEye's AI Technology to Enhance Dairy Herd Monitoring Globally
CattleEye, a technology firm based in Belfast, has announced plans to create 20 new jobs after securing significant investment in research and development. The company specializes in AI-powered video analytics to monitor the health of dairy cows. Currently, CattleEye's technology is operational on over 140 farms across various countries including the UK, Europe, the US, and Australia, covering 200,000 cattle in 23 nations.
Founded in 2019, CattleEye became a subsidiary of Germany's GEA Farm Technologies in 2024. The company's technology aims to minimize the reliance on manual and often subjective procedures for herd monitoring. CattleEye's system is designed to offer farmers tools to reduce additional equipment investments and cut greenhouse gas emissions through automated data utilization.
Invest NI has offered financial support amounting to £339,294 to aid both the R&D project and the creation of new positions such as software engineers and user experience executives. Vicky Kell, Invest NI's director of innovation, emphasized this investment as a testament to Northern Ireland's talent and infrastructure, noting that the new roles will bolster CattleEye's position within GEA's global operations.
Co-founder Terry Canning highlighted the potential integration of CattleEye's system into GEA's advanced herd management platforms, enhancing digital capabilities in farming. He stated, "Investing in our AI livestock system is an important step in our ambition to grow the business and increase our market against our competitors."
The anticipated completion of the team by 2027 aims to strengthen Northern Ireland's reputation as a hub for agri-tech innovations, aligning with global market competitiveness.
