Brazilian Dairy Sector Focuses on Youth Integration at Megaleite 2026
The Brazilian dairy sector is placing a spotlight on youth involvement as it prepares for the 21st Megaleite event in Belo Horizonte. A key feature of this event will be the launch of the 'Girolando Jovem' initiative on June 3, an effort by the Brazilian Association of Girolando Breeders to engage young people in the industry. The initiative is designed to enhance access to information and training for students, young producers, and professionals, aiming to secure the future of dairy farming in Brazil.
Girolando Jovem will be guided by professionals from various fields including management, genetics, veterinary medicine, and communication. Daniel Lacerda, known for his work in Girolando selection at Fazenda Mirai, will lead the initiative as president and ambassador. He is set to deliver a lecture on 'Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture' during the event.
Other notable members of the Girolando Jovem commission include Luiza Lima Gaio as financial director, Pedro Paiva as marketing and events director, and Túlio Araújo as deputy director. These individuals represent a new wave of leadership that is more connected to the professionalization of dairy farming activities.
A significant challenge facing the industry is retaining young people in agricultural roles. Statistics indicate that over 73% of those involved in agriculture have familial ties to producers, highlighting the importance of succession planning. The Megaleite event will also host the 'Encontro Jovens do Leite', organized by Sistema Faemg/Senar, which will address issues such as economic viability and representativeness in the dairy sector.
The Megaleite, running from June 2 to 6, will also feature livestock judging, dairy competitions, auctions, lectures, and technology launches. Traditionally centered around genetics and animal exhibitions, the event is now incorporating discussions on leadership development and the sustainability of dairy farming.
