Brazilian Dairy Company Innovates with Diverse Product Portfolio
A dairy company from the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is diversifying its product offerings to address the seasonal nature of dairy sales. Traditionally known for its dulce de leche, the company has expanded its portfolio to include flavors such as coffee, coconut, hazelnut, pistachio, and cocoa. Additionally, it has developed a line specifically for the food service sector, targeting bakeries, confectioneries, and ice cream parlors.
The company reports that selling to gelaterias has helped stabilize demand throughout the year, leading to increased summer sales of dulce de leche, a period previously marked by lower consumption. The dairy's origins trace back to a family-run farm in Minas Gerais, which has been in operation for four generations. Approximately 25% of the milk used by the company is produced on this farm, with the remainder sourced from nearby producers.
Amid plans to triple production, the company founders emphasize that securing milk supply is not a concern, citing the ample availability of raw materials in the region. Their strategy focuses on enhancing the value derived from each liter of milk by leveraging natural ingredients, premium products, and specialization to boost business profitability.
The company also seeks to strengthen the connection between consumers and local producers. There is an increasing demand for products with traceable origins, traditional recipes, and distinctive identities, which are now integral to the brand's offering.
This approach exemplifies a broader trend among the new generation of dairy businesses, which aim to combine commercial expansion, product differentiation, and value addition in the dairy supply chain.
