Boss Dairy Farms Recalls Cheddar Cheese Due to Listeria Concerns
On December 17, 2025, Boss Dairy Farms announced a voluntary recall of a retail lot of Charlevoix Cheese Company's 8oz Mild Cheddar Cheese due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious health issues, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience temporary symptoms, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
The recall affects products distributed exclusively in Michigan through retail stores. The cheese is packaged in clear plastic with a UPC of 850056642057, marked with lot number 13220025 and a best by date of 10/20/26. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.
The potential contamination was identified through routine testing conducted by Boss Dairy Farms, which detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product. Consumers who purchased the affected cheese are advised to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Charlevoix Cheese Company, the brand under which the cheese is sold, has stated that consumer safety is their highest priority, prompting the voluntary recall.
