Biogas and On-Farm Energy Supply to Be Key Topics at EnergyDecentral 2026
The areas most relevant to dairy farms will include converting organic feedstock into biogas, generating electricity and heat on site, and integrating energy installations with farm infrastructure. Such solutions allow livestock farms to reduce their dependence on external energy networks and create additional sources of income.
A separate DLG Solar Initiative + On-Farm Energy section will focus on agrivoltaics, battery storage systems, wind energy and biogas plants. The organisers plan to present integrated systems combining biogas generation, solar panels and energy storage.
Existing biogas infrastructure, including grid connections and the ability to manage loads flexibly, can be used to store and sell surplus energy. The programme will also include two practical examples of farms with high levels of energy self-sufficiency.
The EnergyDecentral expert stage will feature sessions on biogas and biomethane production, solar energy, storage systems, heat generation from wood, and combined heat and power production. Participants will examine technological solutions, project economics and regulatory developments.
Another topic will be carbon farming, including the use of biochar for carbon sequestration, the certification of carbon sinks and the generation of income from carbon credits.
EnergyDecentral will be held concurrently with EuroTier, bringing together livestock farming technologies and energy solutions at the same venue. Both exhibitions are organised by the German Agricultural Society, DLG.
