According to the Weber County Farm Bureau, the affected dairy farms are experiencing daily milk yield losses ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 pounds per farm. The avian flu not only reduces milk production but also affects cow reproductive health, posing long-term financial challenges for farmers. The rapid regional transmission of the virus has raised concerns that more herds may become infected soon.

The outbreak in Weber County is part of a broader spread of the avian flu strain across northern Utah. Initially detected in Cache Valley, the virus moved into Box Elder County, which also declared a local state of emergency, before reaching Weber County. The virus is believed to spread rapidly through shared equipment, personnel movement, and milk-handling operations.
Under agricultural health authority protocols, confirmed infections trigger strict quarantine periods and health monitoring that can last up to 90 days per herd.
