Arla Maintains Farmgate Milk Price Amidst Market Stabilization Signs
Milk processor Arla has announced that it will maintain its farmgate milk price at 33.98p per litre for a standard manufacturing litre in March. This decision comes after six consecutive months of price reductions, indicating potential signs of stabilisation in the commodity markets at a global level. However, the company notes there is still a significant supply of milk across Europe, which continues to pose challenges.
For organic producers supplying Arla, the price will remain at 57.98p per litre. Despite this consistency, the sector faces uncertainty due to weakening sales volumes, which have affected profitability within the organic market. Reports suggest that improvements in global markets have somewhat alleviated industry concerns, yet the oversupply of milk remains a significant issue impacting trading conditions.
Furthermore, the global dairy market has shown signs of improvement, which has helped to reduce some concerns within the industry. However, the European market continues to experience an oversupply of milk, creating challenging trading conditions for producers and processors alike.
