Danish dairy cooperative Arla has announced that its milk prices for January 2025 will remain unchanged for British farmer suppliers, maintaining stability amid shifting market conditions. The on-account price for conventional milk stays at 48.54 pence per litre (ppl), while organic milk holds at 58.53ppl.

Market Trends and Challenges

Arla noted that global milk supplies are seeing slight increases, and retail sales continue to grow, albeit at a modest pace. However, the cooperative highlighted some market pressures:

“Commodity markets are weakening following the seasonal Christmas peak, though retail markets remain stable,” Arla said in a statement.

The co-op cautioned that the overall outlook for the dairy market remains slightly negative, with uncertainty surrounding the development of commodity prices.

Stability Amid Uncertainty

The decision to hold milk prices steady offers a degree of predictability for Arla’s British farmers, who face fluctuating input costs and evolving market dynamics. With global milk production gradually rising, balancing supply and demand will remain a critical challenge in the months ahead.

Arla’s price announcement comes as the dairy sector watches for signals on how commodity markets will adjust after the holiday season and into 2025.
