Arla Invests €6 Million to Expand Cottage Cheese Production in Falkenberg
Arla Foods has announced a significant investment of nearly SEK 70 million (€6 million) in its Falkenberg dairy facility to enhance the production of Keso cottage cheese. This expansion is set to increase the facility's output by approximately 1,500 tonnes annually through the implementation of advanced filtration, cooling, and water technologies.
The Falkenberg site, known as Europe's largest cottage cheese facility, currently produces around 60 varieties of cottage cheese, catering to both Swedish and international markets. The facility operates with fossil-free energy since December 2024 and processes approximately 130 million kilos of milk each year from local farms.
The investment is driven by a surge in demand for high-protein, low-fat dairy products like cottage cheese and quark, reflecting a broader consumer trend towards fitness and healthy eating. Christian Svensson, the site director at Arla Falkenberg, stated, "We have broken records two years in a row, and this investment comes at exactly the right time. It helps us keep pace with consumers’ increasing interest while also providing a stable and profitable outlet for the milk from Arla’s farmers."
Construction for the facility upgrade is slated to begin early next year, with the new capacity expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. The Falkenberg facility employs around 130 people, playing a crucial role in supporting local dairy farmers and contributing to the regional economy.
