Argentinian Dairy Exports Surge to Record Levels in 2026
The Argentinian dairy sector has started 2026 with unprecedented export dynamism. According to the Argentine Dairy Chain Observatory (OCLA), exports measured in equivalent liters of milk saw a year-on-year increase of 16.3% during the first quarter. This growth has elevated the share of external sales to 30.1% of total production, significantly surpassing the historical average of 25%.
The primary driver of this growth has been powdered milk, which leads the business with 43% of total revenue and a remarkable 42.3% increase in exported tons compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, cheeses account for 24.8% of the revenue, with a more modest growth of 6.9%.
This scenario of increased volume contrasts with a context of declining international prices. The average value per ton was registered at $3,678, reflecting a 7.6% year-on-year decrease, influenced by the volatility of the Global Dairy Trade (GDT).
In March alone, global market exposure peaked at 31.5% of production, posing efficiency challenges for processing plants and production units. With export prices on the decline, particularly powdered milk decreasing by 10.1%, the sector's profitability is increasingly dependent on logistical competitiveness and internal cost reduction.
The industry faces the challenge of maintaining this high level of international integration amid a continuing disparity between global prices and local rates, which continues to pressure industry margins.
