Andhra Pradesh Minister Highlights Dairy Sector's Role in Rural Stability

During the Southern Dairy and Food Conclave 2026 held in Kozhikode, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu underscored the critical role of the dairy sector in maintaining the financial stability of rural economies. He highlighted that dairy farming offers consistent daily income, which is crucial for small and marginal farmers, unlike seasonal crop revenue. This steady income stream is vital for the financial stability of rural households.

Atchannaidu pointed out that in Andhra Pradesh, animal husbandry has become a reliable livelihood, especially for women-led self-help groups. The involvement of women in dairy operations, from animal care to milk collection, aids in financial inclusion and decision-making at the household level. Furthermore, the dairy sector contributes significantly to national nutritional outcomes by improving access to milk and dairy products in rural and semi-urban areas.

The minister also emphasized the importance of technology and policy support for the future growth of the dairy sector. He called for coordinated efforts by state and central governments to adopt modern technology, scientific feeding practices, genetic improvements, and enhanced supply-chain integration to boost productivity and farmer profitability.

At the conclave, the Indian Dairy Association recognized Nara Bhuvaneshwari, Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director of Heritage Foods Limited, for her contributions to the industry, including education, healthcare, women's empowerment, youth development, and disaster relief.
