Alpro’s £41 Million Investment Boosts British Oat Drink Production
A plant-based food producer based in Burton Latimer has unveiled a £41 million investment aimed at producing its oat drink solely from British oats for the first time.

Danone-owned Alpro is set to source oats primarily from within an 80-mile radius of its factory, collaborating with Navara Oat Mill located near Barford Bridge between Kettering and Corby. James Skidmore, managing director of Navara Oat Milling, remarked on how the burgeoning plant-based food industry presents new commercial opportunities for farmers.

This investment will also substantially increase the capacity and production at the Navara Mill, bringing significant benefits to Kettering region. The production expansion is aligned with Danone's ambition to provide more healthy and locally sourced plant-based options, with 58 million litres of the drink planned to be produced annually in Burton Latimer.

Highlighting the broader impact, Jon Ruberry from Danone UK & Ireland emphasized, "We continue to see a big appetite for healthy, plant-based products."

The move, with its local sourcing strategy, seeks to drastically increase the percentage of British oats used in the UK market, concurrently providing consumers with an opportunity to purchase locally sourced oat drinks, while decreasing food miles by having the production and milling facilities merely eight miles apart.
