Ahmedabad Dairy Parlour Sealed After Ghee Test Finds Vegetable Fat

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) closed Shreeji Dairy Parlour in Chenpur after testing established that its ghee contained vegetable fat. The product had been marketed as “pure”.

The civic authority treated the description as a food-safety violation because it misrepresented the product’s composition and could affect customers’ understanding of what they were buying. The finding followed laboratory analysis rather than a visual assessment during an inspection.

The September 22 operation covered four establishments in Ahmedabad. Majlis Restaurant in Juhapura was sealed after inspectors found kitchen and food-preparation conditions that did not meet hygiene requirements. Officials classified the premises as violating the sanitation standards set out in Schedule 4 of regulations issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Rajasthan Dalwada Centre in Isanpur was also closed after testing of reused cooking oil recorded total polar compounds at 32.1%. The applicable FSSAI ceiling for TPC in used cooking oil is 25%, and oil above that level may not be used in food preparation.

The fourth establishment, Shantinath Jain Gruh Udyog in Ranip, was sealed after an inspection confirmed that expired food products were present. The inspection followed complaints alleging that the business was selling items beyond their expiry dates.

The cases covered separate categories of enforcement: adulteration, inaccurate product descriptions, kitchen hygiene, the quality of repeatedly used cooking oil, and expired goods. The AMC said food businesses must comply with rules on safety, sanitation, shelf life and expiry information.
