ABP and Hereford Prime Host Dairy and Suckler Farming Event

An event organized by ABP Food Group and Hereford Prime is set to occur at Nigel Donaldson's farm in Annyalla, Castleblayney, County Monaghan, on the evening of November 15, 2023. The farm, managed by Nigel and his three sons, operates with approximately 40 dairy cows and 20 suckler cows.

The event will delve into the genetics used on the farm and their impact on the Commercial Beef Value (CBV) of the calves produced. According to Sean Cassidy, a farm liaison officer from ABP, discussions will cover the latest updates on the restructuring of the Irish Hereford Prime breed bonus. Additionally, the eligibility of progeny for the Advantage Beef Programme's sustainability bonus will be explored.

Attendees will receive advice on best practices for rearing calves and management tips for both dairy-beef and suckler farmers. Grassland reseeding and water quality are also on the agenda, with opportunities for farmers to have their questions answered by experts.

Speakers from the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), Animal Health Ireland (AHI), and Bord Bia will be present to provide insights and guidance. The event is supported by SuperValu and will feature Signature Tastes Hereford Prime burgers for attendees.
