A free programme helps Goiás milk producers earn more
Maria Márcia Faria de Oliveira Pimenta had sold canned meat in Firminópolis for 43 years when she discovered that she did not know precisely how much her production cost or how much it generated. The finding emerged during financial-management support for rural producers in the region.
After learning to calculate prices more accurately and seeking new markets, she increased her revenue by between 15% and 20%. Producers of milk, cattle and artisanal food in São Luís de Montes Belos and nearby municipalities have taken part in similar work through ALI Rural, a Sebrae Goiás programme focused on reorganising rural businesses.
Nearly 50 people met on August 5 to review the results achieved by participants in the current cycle. The programme assigns a Local Innovation Agent to as many as 20 farms in each group. The agent works with the accounts, product pricing and sales strategies of each property.
The programme does not use a single template for all participants. Each action plan is prepared according to the farm’s production and supply chain, taking account of the circumstances of the people running the business. Cássia de Siqueira, the state ALI manager at Sebrae Goiás, said that producers had engaged with the process because the guidance was tailored to each property rather than based on a general management formula.
ALI Rural initially aims to raise participants’ productivity by more than 12%. Some producers in the current cycle have already recorded revenue gains above that level, particularly where changes in financial management were combined with more accurate product pricing.
The current cycle is due to finish in 2026, while a new period of support is scheduled to begin in August 2026. Agents for the next stage were selected for their previous experience in agribusiness. Applications are open and free through Sebrae’s Western Regional office, either by WhatsApp or on the organisation’s website.
Elenimar Borges, the ALI manager for the Western Regional office, said the programme was intended to focus on short-term measures while allowing for larger interventions when a farm’s circumstances required them. Adriana Rodrigues Ferreira, director of the Firminópolis Rural Union, is working to bring the opportunity to more producers in the area during the next semester.
