As 2025 draws to a close, November reminded us of the urgency for climate action and the strength of collaboration across the dairy sector. From COP30 in Brazil to scientific breakthroughs and global awareness campaigns, here’s what shaped the conversation last month and a sneak peek at what’s next.
The IDF delegation ( Gilles Froment , IDF President and Dr Ying Wang , IDF Global Sustainability Lead) was on the ground, actively shaping the conversation around sustainable livestock and its vital role in #globalfoodsystems.

Dairy’s global impact is immense:
- Dairy provides essential #nutrition to 6 billion people and supports the #livelihoods of nearly 1 billion people across approximately 130 million dairy farms worldwide.
- The sector has one of the smallest carbon footprints per unit of animal product, contributing only ~2.7% of total global anthropogenic GHG emissions, while producing both milk and meat accounts for about 4% of all human-caused #GHGemissions.
- From 2005 to 2015, the GHG emission intensity of milk dropped by almost 11%, even as dairy production increased by 30% and average global milk yield rose by 15%.
- #Dairy animals efficiently use land: about 1.3 billion hectares (a quarter of global agricultural area) is not suitable for crops but can be grazed by dairy animals, turning otherwise wasted biomass into nutrition.
