These figures demonstrate the high concentration of global food supplies. A small group of countries plays a defining role in supplying the global market with food, making agro-exports a crucial element of economic and political influence. The importance of this resource is growing against the backdrop of geopolitical instability, disruptions in logistics routes, rising transportation costs, and increasing fertilizer prices.

Leading positions in global food exports are held by countries in the Americas — the United States, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. These countries account for about a third of global supplies. They export a wide range of products: grains, meat, oilseeds, and processed products.

However, the largest economies are not always the largest food exporters. China, despite being one of the leading global producers of agricultural products, significantly lags behind the United States and Brazil in terms of agro-exports. This is due to the scale of domestic consumption, as a significant portion of Chinese production is directed towards meeting its own market demands.

The WTO report also highlights the specialization of certain countries in key commodity groups. Australia ranks among the major exporters due to its meat and grain supplies to Asian markets. Indonesia holds an important position thanks to its exports of palm oil, one of the most in-demand food ingredients worldwide.

European countries, lacking agricultural land comparable to the largest exporters, compete through technology, product quality, and production efficiency. One of the most illustrative examples is the Netherlands, which ranks 11th in the global food exporters list due to its high-tech agriculture, developed greenhouse sector, and advantageous logistical position.

For Kazakhstan, wheat remains the cornerstone of agro-exports. According to the WTO, in some years, its share in the total agricultural exports from the country exceeded 40%. In addition to wheat, Kazakhstan's top five export positions include vegetable oil, flour, other oilseeds, coarse grain processing products, and other agricultural products.

According to the Bureau of National Statistics, in 2024, Kazakhstan exported animal and plant products, as well as ready-made food products worth over $5.1 billion. In 2025, this figure rose to over $7 billion.
