$240k Dairy Empire: From a Single Cow to ₹2 Crore Success

In the vibrant rural landscape of Balasore, Odisha, Anita Dash stands as a testament to entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. Beginning her journey in 2012 with just one cow and a commitment to local supply, she expanded her dairy operation dramatically over a few short years. By 2015, Anita had grown her herd to 60 cows, addressing the volatility of milk supplies by processing dairy into high-value products such as paneer and khoya.
Anita's enterprise, Krishna Dairy, was formalized in 2021, marking a significant leap with the support of the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. The financial assistance, amounting to ₹26.8 lakhs, facilitated by Palladium, empowered her to enhance production capabilities through modern machinery.
The success of her venture is highlighted by a current daily profit of ₹10,000, amassing a monthly revenue of ₹3–4 lakhs, and has grown her business into an annual ₹2 crore powerhouse. The PMFME initiative not only supports individual success stories like Anita's but also reinforces the broader rural economy by empowering women, thus impacting over 1,700 enterprises across India while ensuring the participation and training of more than 9,300 beneficiaries.
Such endeavors underscore the transformative potential of strategic support schemes in cultivating resilient micro-scale businesses that thrive amidst the challenges and opportunities of India’s rural sectors.
