FAO reported a slight decline in global food prices in October
The FAO Food Price Index, which measures monthly changes in international prices for major food items, stood at 120.6 points in October, down 10.9% from a year earlier and 0.5% below the September figure.
The grain price index decreased by 1% compared to the previous month. In particular, world prices for rice decreased by 2%, and for wheat - by 1.9%, which was "due to significant supplies from the United States and strong competition between exporters." World prices for vegetable oil decreased by 0.7% compared to September, and for sugar - by 2.2%, but remained 46.6% higher than the previous year. Meat prices in the world decreased by 0.6%.
The only indicator that increased was the price index for dairy products - it increased by 2.2% in October, completing a nine-month decline.
