Profeco Reports on Milk Prices in Puebla

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) conducted a price survey of milk in 33 Mexican cities, including Puebla. The survey found that one-liter cartons of ultra-pasteurized (UHT) milk in Puebla are priced between 33.61 and 36.95 pesos, depending on brand and fat content.

Alpura's one-liter classic partially skimmed milk averages 33.61 pesos, while its light variant is slightly higher at 33.62 pesos. Lala's semi-skimmed milk is priced at 36.00 pesos, and its low-fat light option sells for 36.95 pesos. Santa Clara offers its light milk at 35.52 pesos and its whole milk at 36.17 pesos. Furthermore, a 460-gram bag of Alpura classic powdered milk costs 99.10 pesos.

In a national context, Puebla stands in the middle range for most milk categories analyzed. However, it is among the seven cities with the lowest price for Santa Clara Light milk, approximately 35 pesos, and among six cities with competitive pricing for Lala Light low-fat milk, close to 36 pesos.

On a broader scale, Profeco noted that the national average price for one-liter whole pasteurized Alpura milk is 28.96 pesos, while San Marcos whole UHT milk averages 30.80 pesos. Santa Clara whole UHT milk has a national average price of 36.28 pesos. Additionally, Nido Kinder infant formula (360 grams) is priced at an average of 90.83 pesos.

Profeco also emphasized the nutritional benefits of milk, which is rich in calcium, magnesium, B-complex vitamins, as well as vitamins A, C, D, and E, crucial for bone density and osteoporosis prevention. They advised consumers to compare prices per liter or kilo, check expiration dates and packaging integrity, and maintain proper cold storage to minimize daily waste.
