The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (DAFF) has initiated a consultation process seeking public input on the functioning of the Dairy Industry Code, designed to facilitate equitable negotiations between dairy farmers and processors.
Australia Invites Stakeholder Input on Dairy Industry Code
Following the comprehensive review of the Dairy Industry Code in 2021, conducted with the collaboration of the Dairy Industry Code Review Reference Group, the DAFF has opened the floor for further discussion. Acting Deputy Secretary of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Policy Group, Dr. Jared Greenville, highlighted the significance of this consultation in addressing the findings of the initial review.

"While a second formal review of the code will take place in the future, this consultation positions DAFF to delve deeper into the issues identified in the first review," stated Dr. Greenville.

The first review identified key areas requiring additional examination, and this consultation aims to gather more evidence to ensure the code evolves to effectively represent the evolving needs of the dairy industry. The Dairy Industry Code plays a pivotal role in leveling the playing field between dairy farmers and processors, and maintaining its relevance is crucial for the industry's sustained growth.

Dr. Greenville encouraged individuals and organizations vested in fostering fair and transparent negotiations within the dairy sector to actively participate in this consultation, reinforcing the commitment to shaping an industry code that stands the test of time.
