Kazakhstan's Livestock Sector Reaches 3 Trillion Tenge
Increase in Livestock Numbers and Production
The country is experiencing growth in almost all major types of livestock:
-
Cattle — +1.7%, 8.4 million heads
-
Horses — +6.7%, 8.4 million heads
-
Poultry — +4.4%, 48.3 million heads
Meat production increased by 2.8% (914 thousand tons), while milk production rose to 3.3 million tons, which is 5.2% higher than last year's level.
According to Amangali Berdalin, the current capacities allow for full supply to the domestic market and the development of exports.
Record Dynamics in Export Indicators
Over 10 months:
-
Beef exports increased 1.6 times to 30.4 thousand tons
-
Mutton exports grew 1.8 times to 25.1 thousand tons
In physical terms, this is approximately:
-
152 thousand heads of cattle
-
1.2 million heads of small ruminants.
Preferential Financing and Introduction of Foreign Technologies
To expand export potential, the state is launching preferential lending for feedlots at 5% per annum for a 12-month term. A total of 50 billion tenge has been allocated, with applications for 18.2 billion tenge already approved.
Simultaneously, from 2024, Kazakhstan is implementing the Australian beef cattle model, which includes:
-
Rotational grazing,
-
Local feed provision,
-
Specialized compound feeds,
-
Development of processing and feed enterprises.
These measures are expected to ensure exports of up to 50 thousand tons of meat annually.
Poultry Farming: Aiming for Full Self-Sufficiency
In recent years, 6 poultry farms with a capacity of 70 thousand tons of meat have been constructed, increasing self-sufficiency from 58% to 79%.
The state forecasts:
-
An increase in production from 360 thousand tons to 505 thousand tons,
-
The launch of 8 new projects with a capacity of 241 thousand tons in 2026–2028.
By 2026, four factories will be operational, allowing for 90% self-sufficiency, and by 2027, the country's demand will be fully met.
Dairy Sector: Focus on North Kazakhstan and Farm Construction
The key success is the implementation of the North Kazakhstan model:
-
63 dairy farms with a total capacity of 352 thousand tons of milk have been built;
-
2 more facilities will be commissioned by the end of the year;
-
43 projects will be completed by 2027.
The expected expansion will allow for an increase in milk production by 600 thousand tons and ensure full self-sufficiency in the country.
New Comprehensive Livestock Development Plan
At the President's directive, a Comprehensive Development Plan for the sector is being developed. It includes:
-
Preferential replenishment of working capital at 5% per annum;
-
Funding for the purchase of breeding stock at 6% per annum, amounting to 240 billion tenge;
-
A new credit product for grazing livestock farming at 6% in the Kostanay and Ulytau regions.
The document will pay special attention to:
-
Development of raw material processing,
-
Creation of service procurement centers (wool, hides),
-
Training of human resources for the sector.
