Zagro Rebrands Indian Subsidiary as Zagro India

Zagro India adopts group identity

Zagro has changed the name of its Indian subsidiary from PL Agro Technologies Pvt Ltd to Zagro India Pvt Ltd. The Chennai-based business was acquired by Zagro three years ago and remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Zagro Singapore Pte Ltd.

The company said the new identity will align the Indian operation more closely with the wider group. It said customers will gain access to Zagro’s international research and development resources, manufacturing standards and broader range of products. The change does not alter ownership, existing contracts, customer relationships, commitments, quality standards or service arrangements. The current management and technical personnel will remain in place.

Products for agriculture and livestock

Zagro described India as one of the fastest-growing markets for agriculture and livestock. Poultry is a central part of that market: India ranks third globally for egg production and fifth for poultry meat, while annual egg output exceeds 140bn.

Its Indian offering is organised around three areas. Animal-nutrition products include vitamin and mineral premixes, feed additives, toxin binders and functional nutrition products. Animal-health activities cover poultry, swine, dairy, aquaculture and farm biosecurity. Crop-care products include crop-protection treatments, plant nutrition and speciality agrochemicals.

The business intends to serve poultry, dairy, beef-cattle, swine, aquaculture, companion-animal and crop-production customers. Alongside products, it provides technical advice, product support and training. Manas Mitra is the commercial head for India, while Raja Vadivel, an R&D project manager at Zagro Singapore, handles technical assistance and product information.

Chennai facility remains production base

The Chennai plant will continue to be Zagro India’s main manufacturing site for the domestic market. Its output includes organic and inorganic mineral premixes, mycotoxin binders, Halquinol, oral liquids, Tiamulin 80% and customised products.

Zagro said the facility will support wider market coverage, shorter delivery times and quicker responses to customer requirements. The company has described its operating approach as “Global technology, local production and effective solutions” and said it plans to deepen relationships with poultry farmers, veterinarians and feed manufacturers in India.

Group background

At group level, Poh Beng Swee, chairman and chief executive of Zagro Asia, has called for closer work with customers on products and agricultural solutions. Dr Hary Hartantyo, a regional director at Zagro Singapore and general director of Zagro Vietnam, is also involved in the group’s operations.

Zagro was founded in 1953 as a division of the Swiss-based Zuellig Group and joined the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1996. It now operates across animal health, animal nutrition, crop care, public health and industrial chemicals. The company says it has more than 70 years of international experience, operates in over 70 countries and holds hundreds of animal-health registrations and trademarks. It also says that 99.9% of its business is international.

Between 2004 and 2010, Zagro expanded through subsidiaries and acquisitions in Asia, Europe and Africa, including the purchase of BASF’s animal-nutrition business in Taiwan. Its manufacturing sites hold GMP and ISO 22000 certifications, and products are tested by an accredited independent laboratory.
