This achievement comes less than a year after Vinamilk unveiled its Pathways to Dairy Net Zero 2050 action plan, marking significant progress in its commitment to sustainable practices. With this certification, Vinamilk now boasts three carbon-neutral factories, underscoring its dedication to environmental responsibility.
Founded in 2010, the Vinamilk Vietnam beverage factory produces over 282 million products annually. The factory's certification verifies the neutralization of 3,410 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions. This was accomplished through a combination of emission reductions in production and investments in forest funds to absorb greenhouse gases. More than 92% of the factory's energy consumption now comes from clean, renewable sources, leading to a 30% reduction in emissions.
This milestone highlights Vinamilk's broader commitment to sustainability, with its certified factories collectively offsetting 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2), equivalent to the impact of approximately 2 million trees. The other certified facilities include the Ngee Ann Dairy Factory and Ngee Ann Dairy Farm.
Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Executive Director of Production and Head of Net Zero Projects at Vinamilk, commented: “We are actively integrating environmentally friendly technologies, shifting to green energy, and adopting circular economy principles to develop factory models that are not only modern and compliant with international quality standards, but also increasingly sustainable. With the strong determination of the Board of Directors and the active commitment of its employees, Vinamilk is committed to further reducing the carbon footprint of every consumer product.”
Vinamilk's Path to Net Zero 2050 plan encompasses projects across eight key pillars: sustainable sourcing, green and renewable energy, low-emission packaging, low-carbon product development, environmentally friendly logistics, carbon sequestration, sustainable consumption, and circular economy principles.
Mr. Le Duyen Anh, General Manager of BSI Vietnam, stated: “By conducting a comprehensive inventory and thorough assessment of emissions, companies can gain the necessary insights to create a systematic roadmap for emission reduction and neutralization. We believe Vinamilk’s initiatives can serve as a model for companies committed to sustainable development and contributing to Vietnam’s net-zero goals.”
Vinamilk is also undertaking large-scale carbon sequestration projects, including expanding the Green Tree Fund on farms and factories, protecting over 1,000 hectares of forest in Laos, and promoting tree planting through the Vinamilk Net Zero Forest Project. This includes reforesting 25 hectares of mangroves in Ca Mau province in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Vinamilk's "Road to Net Zero Dairy 2050" plan recently won the Green Leadership category at the 2024 Asian Corporate Social Responsibility Awards (AREA), recognizing the company’s pioneering role in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainable development. This accolade underscores Vinamilk's impact on business practices and its contribution to the net-zero journey of Vietnam’s dairy industry.
