Veracruz Enhances Dairy Production with Genetic Improvement Program
The Secretariat of Agricultural Development, Rural and Fisheries (SEDARPA) in Veracruz has initiated a project focused on strengthening dairy production through genetic improvement strategies. This program is aimed at enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of livestock units across various regions of the state.
The initiative involves optimizing the genetic quality of cattle to increase production levels and improve the efficiency of dairy systems. State authorities have indicated that the project also seeks to bolster the profitability of producers in the face of economic and climatic challenges in the agricultural sector.
Included in the strategies are technical assistance tools and reproduction processes designed to modernize cattle herds, with a focus on establishing a more technologically advanced livestock industry that can meet the growing demand for milk and derivatives in the national market.
The agency highlighted that genetic fortification is considered a key element to improve milk quality, increase productivity per animal, and reduce operational costs in the medium term. Additionally, the project aims to promote more sustainable and efficient livestock practices for producer families.
Through this project, Veracruz aims to reinforce its presence in the Mexican dairy industry and create better conditions for rural development. Sector analysts believe that investments in genetics and technology transfer are crucial to enhancing the competitiveness of dairy production in Mexico.
