Varun Beverages Expands into Dairy Market with Crickley Dairy Acquisition
Varun Beverages, known for its bottling of major global soft drink brands like Pepsi and Mountain Dew, has announced its acquisition of Crickley Dairy, a South African dairy company, through its subsidiary, The Beverage Company (BevCo). The deal, which involves a 100% equity stake purchase fr om Clark Holdings, is valued at ZAR 238 million, approximately $14 million USD. This strategic acquisition is part of Varun's broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and enter high-growth segments such as value-added dairy and juice-based beverages.
The acquisition, disclosed through regulatory filings on the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited, is subject to clearance from South Africa's competition authorities. By acquiring Crickley Dairy, Varun Beverages aims to leverage its existing distribution and cold-chain infrastructure to strengthen its presence in the dairy category within South Africa. This move further supports Varun's commitment to expanding its operations in Africa, wh ere its subsidiary BevCo already plays a significant role.
With this acquisition, Varun Beverages intends to tap into the evolving consumer demand for functional and nutrition-focused products, thus shifting towards becoming a more diversified beverage company. The integration of Crickley Dairy into Varun's operations is expected to complement its existing capabilities and accelerate growth in the dairy market.
