Valio Announces Leadership Transition with Annikka Hurme's Retirement
Annikka Hurme, the current CEO of Valio, has announced her retirement, effective at the end of 2026. She has been an integral part of Valio since 1989, holding various expert and management roles, and has served as CEO since 2014. During her tenure, she significantly contributed to Valio's growth and strategic initiatives, expanding the company's presence in the Finnish food industry and beyond.
Valio's board of directors has appointed Matti Lehmus as the new CEO, effective January 1, 2027. Lehmus brings a wealth of experience from his previous leadership roles at Neste, where he served as president and CEO from 2022 to 2024. He is also a member of Kemira's board of directors.
Under Hurme's leadership, Valio has become a leader in Finnish food exports and has diversified into plant-based products, biogas, and the wholesale sector. Vesa Kaunisto, chair of Valio’s board, praised Hurme's contributions, emphasizing her role in transforming and renewing the business while building a strong foundation for future growth.
Matti Lehmus's appointment reflects Valio's strategy to emphasize international expansion and strengthen its growth brands. His extensive experience in leading global growth projects was a significant factor in his selection as CEO. The board believes that Lehmus's strategic expertise and leadership will aid in achieving Valio's goals, benefiting the company's owners and Finnish dairy farmers.
The leadership transition marks a new chapter in Valio's history, with the company poised to continue its development and expansion under Lehmus's guidance.
