Valio to Close Oulu Plant Previously Producing Yogurts for Russian Market
The closure of the facility will occur in phases and is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2028. Production from the Oulu site is planned to be transferred to other Valio plants in Riihimäki, Jyväskylä, and Joensuu.
Approximately 300 people are employed at the Oulu plant. The upcoming changes could affect around 140 employees. Final decisions regarding layoffs have not yet been made. The company stated it will strive to offer employment to as many employees as possible at other production sites.
After production ceases, a distribution warehouse, as well as sales and technical support departments, will remain on the Oulu plant site.
At the Oulu plant, Valio produces fresh dairy products, plant-based semi-finished products, and ice cream. Until 2014, the plant was specifically used to produce yogurts for the Russian market.
The planned closure of the plant will be part of a broader reorganization of Valio's industrial production in Finland.
