According to the 'Great Asia' TV channel, the total number of yaks in the region is about 24,000. Of these, around 19,000 are kept specifically in the Murghab district. The climatic conditions of this area are considered the most suitable for yak breeding.

Tajik farmers have long focused on this area of animal husbandry. Yaks are known for their hardiness, and their milk, meat, and wool are in demand.

Cheese made from yak milk is considered a niche product with high added value. The article notes that such a product is rich in calcium, trace elements, and fatty acids. Moreover, it is classified as hard cheese, which expands its storage and marketing possibilities.

Developing yak milk processing could become an additional direction for the mountainous regions of Tajikistan. For farmers, this is an opportunity not only to sell raw materials but also to produce a product with a higher market value, aimed at the local market, the tourism sector, and potentially for export.
