Organizers reported that during the event, ratings of bulls, cows, and heifers based on genomic evaluations of breeding value were published. In particular, a rating of the 100 cows with the highest scores was compiled.

The calculations are based on the MBI — Multi-trait Breeding Index. This is a Russian economic index expressed in rubles, taking into account the genetic potential of the animal for a range of economically valuable traits.

The index allows for the assessment of the estimated additional economic effect from using the animal in the farm over the course of a year. The calculations consider characteristics that affect the productivity and economic efficiency of dairy production.

As noted by the developers of the rating, the use of the Russian reference database should take into account the specifics of the local cattle population and livestock farming conditions.

Public genomic ratings can be used by breeding farms in the selection of animals, development of breeding programs, and selection of breeding bulls. However, the final breeding value of animals depends not only on genetic evaluations but also on the quality of the initial data, the size of the reference database, and the calculation methodology.
