USDA Appoints New Members to Food Safety Advisory Committee

The committee provides impartial scientific advice and recommendations to federal food safety agencies, ensuring the safety of foods. Members are selected based on their expertise in various relevant disciplines such as microbiology, risk assessment, epidemiology, public health, and food science.

The newly appointed NACMCF members, serving a two-year term, include individuals with expertise in fields such as agriculture, food engineering, consumer advocacy, and more. The committee plays a crucial role in addressing food safety issues, offering scientific advice to federal food safety agencies, and serving as a foundation for regulations and programs aimed at reducing foodborne diseases.

NACMCF's activities involve subcommittees focused on specific areas under consideration, and the committee reports contribute valuable information and scientific advice to federal food safety agencies, including the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Commerce National Marine Fisheries Service, and the Department of Defense Veterinary Services.
