The price was reported by the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service through its MyMarketNews platform. The figure appeared in Dairy Market News Report 41, identified by slug ID 1600, and covered Grade A nonfat dry milk sold in carlot quantities on the CME Group cash market.

The reported move amounted to half a cent per pound compared with the preceding trading session. The publication did not include separate prices for other grades, transaction totals or trading-volume data for the session.

Market data

The quoted cash-market value was expressed in US dollars per pound. The reported trading lot size was 41,000–45,000 pounds, while the reporting date was October 8, 2026. The USDA also said that five days of trading information were available through CME Group spot-call data.

Nonfat dry milk is made by removing most of the water from skim milk. In powdered form, it can be stored and moved more readily than liquid milk. Food manufacturers use it in products including baked goods, confectionery, beverages, prepared foods and dairy formulations.

Dairy processors can use the powder to market milk solids in a longer-lasting form. It is also used to standardise milk solids or add dairy proteins and other milk components to finished products. The product is traded within domestic and international dairy supply chains.

Spot prices provide a reference for businesses buying or selling the ingredient. Their relevance to individual companies depends on factors including purchasing contracts, production costs, product specifications and customer arrangements. The October 8 report supplied the latest daily price but did not provide data on inventories, milk production, export demand or purchasing activity.
