Uruguay Seeks New Funding Sources for Dairy Industry Support

The Uruguayan government is currently in discussions with dairy producer organizations to secure additional funding for the National Milk Institute (INALE). The primary proposal on the table is the establishment of a Dairy Guarantee Fund, which would serve as a new financial resource for the industry.

The Dairy Guarantee Fund is being considered as a significant alternative to existing funding mechanisms. This initiative aims to provide financial stability and support to the dairy sector, which is a crucial part of Uruguay's agricultural economy.

Producer organizations, however, have proposed an alternative approach, suggesting that a portion of the export tax currently allocated to the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) should be redirected to support the dairy sector.
