Uruguay Gives Dairy Producers Electricity Discounts of Up to 80%

Milk producers in Uruguay may receive a reduction of as much as 80% on the energy charge applied to their electricity service during 2026. The measure, reported by the National Milk Institute (Inale), covers the period from January through December and also applies to businesses and productive units within the dairy chain.

The level of support depends on the contracted capacity of each establishment. Producers whose contracted power is 15 kW or less qualify for an 80% reduction on the energy charge associated with their first 500 kWh of consumption. Where contracted capacity exceeds 15 kW, the applicable reduction is 15% on the energy charge.

Separate provision for dairy companies

Dairy-processing companies and other eligible businesses in the chain will receive a 15% reduction on energy charges during the same period. The provision therefore distinguishes between smaller or lower-capacity producer services and establishments with higher contracted power, while setting a single rate for the eligible dairy industry.

The discounts cannot be combined with one another or with other active commercial reductions. If an electricity service qualifies for more than one commercial discount, only the option that produces the greatest total economic benefit will be applied.

Application requirements

Applicants must complete the relevant form and accept an informed-consent clause. Producers must also have submitted the DICOSE A3 sworn declaration for dairy activity for the 2025–2026 financial year. DICOSE is the declaration required for the livestock activity covered by the programme.

Companies in the dairy chain must hold a current authorisation from Uruguay’s Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), evidenced by the ministry’s Health Mark. The benefit must be requested no later than December 31st 2026.
