Uruguay's dairy exports see an 11% rise, nearing $500 million in the first half of 2025, driven by whole milk powder and butter.

Uruguay has recorded an impressive 11% growth in its dairy exports during the first half of 2025, reaching a total of $428.5 million, according to the Instituto Nacional de la Leche (Inale). Significant contributions to this surge came from whole milk powder, which rose by 18% to $286.9 million, and butter, increasing by 26% to $34.8 million.
Conversely, skimmed milk and cheese experienced declines in both volume and revenue, falling by 4% and 22% respectively. Overall, 94,738 tonnes were exported, with whole milk up by 3% and butter by 1%.
Positive pricing trends were observed, with June prices for whole milk at $4,137 per tonne—a notable 47% increase compared to December 2024. Butter fetched $6,839 per tonne, a 24% increment.
Key markets like Brazil and Algeria dominated, comprising two-thirds of the exports, as global dairy prices improved. The report reflects the strategic importance of the dairy sector in Uruguay's foreign trade.
