This decision follows the adoption of Bill No. 5148, which aims to improve the quality of food products, particularly those consumed by children.

Maria Mezentseva, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration with the European Union, announced the law's passage, emphasizing its significance in raising food safety standards. "The Verkhovna Rada has adopted an important draft law No. 5148 'On Amendments to Improve the Quality of Food Products Consumed by Children,'" Mezentseva said.

Key provisions of the law include:

A ban on the use of palm oil in traditional dairy products.
A ban on hydrogenated palm oil and other hydrogenated vegetable fats in baby food.
A ban on hydrogenated palm oil in confectionery products.

In addition to these bans, the law will introduce fines for companies that violate the new regulations, reinforcing the government's commitment to protecting consumers, especially children.

The bill was initially adopted in its first reading in September 2021, and its final passage marks a significant step toward improving food quality and aligning Ukraine’s food safety standards with those of the European Union.
