U.S. Restrictions Take Effect on Canadian Dairy, Alcohol and Motorcycles

The United States has brought new prohibitions and tariff restrictions on selected imports from Canada into force. Dairy products, alcoholic beverages and motorcycles are among the affected goods, with the measures applying at customs entry points.

The dairy dispute centres on Canada’s supply-management system for milk, poultry and eggs. The National Milk Producers Federation and the U.S. Dairy Export Council have repeatedly accused Ottawa of administering tariff-rate quotas in a way that limits effective access for U.S. fluid milk, cheese and dairy ingredients, according to the source.
