Tripura's Ambitious Plan for Dairy Self-Sufficiency Progresses

Tripura has been making significant strides in its dairy and livestock sectors, as announced by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. During the 17th Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Agartala, Dr. Saha declared that Tripura now holds the second position in milk production in the northeast region.

The Chief Minister emphasized the state's goal of achieving complete self-sufficiency in milk and egg production. He praised the expansion of veterinary education, highlighting that the number of seats in the college has increased to 66, up from a significantly lower count in previous years.

Furthermore, Dr. Saha noted the state's leading position in per capita egg availability and its achievement of self-sufficiency in meat production. He called for continued collaboration between the government and various stakeholders to reach the target of dairy self-reliance.

Among the initiatives contributing to this progress is the Green Animal Food Development Project, which has begun fodder cultivation on 286 hectares. Additional efforts include new duck and poultry farming projects under the Chief Minister’s Animal Resources Scheme.

In a broader context of the state's development, Dr. Saha announced the forthcoming laying of the foundation stone for the SHIJA Super Speciality Hospital near RK Nagar, scheduled for November 5. This marks another milestone in Tripura's ongoing development journey.
