Toluca reopens Lechería para el Bienestar in San Mateo Oxtotitlán

The reopening was led by the Toluca municipal government in coordination with state and federal authorities. The outlet will provide fortified liquid and powdered milk at subsidised prices, with the stated aim of supporting household access to the product and child nutrition.

Ricardo Moreno, Toluca’s mayor, said the reopening formed part of a three-level government strategy focused on human development and assistance for socially vulnerable residents. Rocío Merlos, the municipality’s director-general for welfare, said the San Mateo Oxtotitlán outlet would also serve nearby delegations.

Merlos said premises were being prepared for additional units in Galaxias, San Diego Linares and Real de San Pablo. The latest reopening follows earlier openings at distribution centres in Santa María Totoltepec and Niños Héroes.

The municipality has set a target of 70 operating distribution centres in Toluca during the year. The local expansion is being carried out alongside the national food-security policies promoted by Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum.

People seeking to join the programme must submit official identification, proof of address, birth certificates and the CURP identification details of household members at the nearest outlet. Priority groups include children aged from six months to 12 years, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with disabilities and older adults.

The Liconsa network supplies milk fortified with iron, zinc, folic acid and vitamins A, C, D, B2 and B12. The programme’s stated nutritional coverage includes support for children’s cognitive and physical development, while the expanding network provides an institutional channel for dairy distribution in Estado de México.
