The Superior School of Dairy Celebrates 95 Years of Educational Excellence

Located in Nueva Helvecia, the Superior School of Dairy has commemorated its 95th anniversary, standing as Uruguay's leading institution for dairy education. Established on May 4th, 1930, it now boasts a 133-hectare campus with a herd of 90 Holstein cows producing 1600 liters of milk daily, used as raw material for a variety of dairy products.
Directed by Professor Ana Cecilia Lacaze, the school offers agrarian baccalaureate programs and tertiary education options, including a Technologist in Dairy Industries course, unique to the UTU, and a technologist course in Dairy Production Systems in collaboration with UTEC.
The institution is notable for its rigorous practical training, requiring students to begin the day as early as 5:30 a.m. to accommodate the natural dairy production process. This hands-on approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for the professional world, contributing to full employment among alumni.
The school, which served as Latin America's first dedicated dairy education center, attracts students from across the globe due to its esteemed reputation. With a legacy of innovation and comprehensive education, it continues to foster a deep understanding and appreciation of dairy science among its students.
Exhibiting a rich history and commitment to excellence, the school represents a key player in the region's educational and agricultural landscape, showcasing Uruguay's prominence in the dairy sector.
