The vice president of the U.S. Grains Council reports a significant uptick in Mexico's purchase of U.S. yellow corn, reaching a remarkable 33% increase compared to the previous year.
Surge in U.S. Yellow Corn Sales to Mexico Amidst Growing Livestock and Industrial Demand
Cary Sifferath, speaking to Brownfield, attributes this surge to Mexico's expanding livestock industry, thriving corn starch, and sweetener sectors. He notes that adverse weather conditions, including drought, have impacted Mexico's local corn crop, leading to a projected decline in output as the harvest approaches in June.

However, challenges arise for U.S. white corn exports to Mexico due to the country's ban on GMO corn. Sifferath remains optimistic, citing growing demand in other nations such as Colombia, El Salvador, Venezuela, and Guatemala, where there is a rising need for white corn imports.

Addressing the ongoing dispute, a resolution panel is diligently working to settle the Mexico GMO corn ban issue. A final ruling is anticipated in November, offering potential relief for U.S. exporters. The U.S. Grains Council discussed these developments at an International Marketing Conference held in Guatemala in mid-February.
