Sudamericana Lácteos Resumed Production at Its Santa Fe Plant

Sudamericana Lácteos resumed production on Wednesday at its factory in Díaz, in Argentina’s Santa Fe province, after more than six months without operations. The reopening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the start of a new administrative phase led by Pablo González.

The initial plan focuses on bar cheese and calls for the plant to handle approximately 100,000 litres of milk per day. González said, “We will start with 100,000 litres a day.” The planned volume represents about two-thirds of the facility’s available processing capacity.

The factory can receive and process roughly 150,000 litres of raw milk each day. The company said production would be increased gradually towards that level. The initial operating arrangement is intended to allow production to resume while the plant restores its activity after the prolonged stoppage.

About 70% of the cheese produced under the new scheme is expected to be exported, with the remaining 30% sold in Argentina. At the starting level of 100,000 litres of milk a day, a substantial share of the output will therefore be directed to international markets.

The restart preserves 78 jobs connected to the facility. During the first stage, employees will work rotating shifts and reduced hours while production is rebuilt. The new administration has also begun addressing several months of unpaid wages after reaching an agreement with the union representatives.

The factory is located in Díaz, in the San Jerónimo department, where the dairy industry is a significant source of employment and economic activity. Its return also restores a buyer for milk produced in the surrounding dairy region. The company’s new operating programme involves 100,000 litres a day, 78 workers and cheese production mainly intended for export, with the plant’s stated full processing capacity at 150,000 litres per day.
