Stonyfield and Rainbow Valley Farm open a $120 Cow Spa in Maine
Stonyfield Organic and Rainbow Valley Farm have launched a temporary “Organic Cow Spa” at the farm in Sidney, Maine. The initiative combines agricultural education, agritourism and consumer wellness, and was reported by the CBS 13 (WGME) I-Team. It is scheduled to operate until the first week of October.
Admission costs $120. The price refers to the United States Department of Agriculture’s organic requirement that dairy herds spend at least 120 days each year grazing on pasture. The experience presents livestock-care routines as wellness treatments for visitors.
Guests start with supervised cow-cuddling sessions. The programme also includes reflexology, “pasture pedicures” based on hoof trimming and foot-health maintenance, and scalp massages using peppermint essential oil. The source says the oil is used on herds belonging to Stonyfield suppliers. Visitors can also take part in guided meditation along grazing trails and receive cold-pressed green juices.
The pop-up operates as Maine’s dairy sector contracts. The state has lost about one-third of its licensed dairy farms since 2020, leaving fewer than 140 commercial dairy farms, according to the report. The sector has faced higher costs for feed, diesel, labour and farm supplies, as well as extreme weather events.
Rainbow Valley Farm is a multi-generational family operation. The article describes agritourism and brand-sponsored consumer activities as additional sources of revenue and as opportunities to explain the costs, labour requirements and regulatory standards associated with pasture-based organic milk production.
The activation also gives visitors direct contact with farm animals and dairy production. The report places it within a broader shift in which small family farms in the north-eastern United States use consumer-facing activities and farm storytelling while dairy production becomes more concentrated in large Midwestern operations.
